책 소개
This book is prepared with simplicity in principle to provide senior undergraduates a basic engineering economic knowledge which is required for their project or process design course. An engineering design project generally involves the development of a processing plant from a conceptual flowsheet and incorporates several major tasks to finally yield estimates of a capital cost and operating cost for the proposed plant. From then on, the determination of how financially viable the project is will be based on economic evaluation techniques, which are not much different from those used by bankers to evaluate their investment portfolios. The book covers major issues relevant to the economic evaluation task and presents to students the framework required for conducting a feasibility study of an engineering project. The information presented is by no means specific for any field of engineering, although the framework required for a mineral development project is selected and discussed. The tools presented herewith via basic principles and examples should be adequate for students to use confidently for the economic evaluation of their design project. The case studies presented are actual students' work and they should reflect the level of understanding gained via the learning from this book. The accuracy of the student's evaluation of a project is not an important criterion to assess success while crude assumptions are normally made at this level. It is the confidence gained by engineering students in dealing with economic issues related to project design that will determine the great outcome this book hopes to deliver.
