책 소개

Introduction TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is a standardized test designed to measure a person's ability to understand English as it is used internationally. The test is divided into two main sections: Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension. Listening Comprehension is divided into four parts and Reading into three. The Listening section tests the ability to understand spoken English. The Reading section tests the knowledge of grammar and usage, and the ability to read and understand short passages. Each section contains 100 items. All the questions on the current TOEIC examination are multiple choice questions. Items in most parts have four answer choices; in Part Ⅱ, there are three answer choices. Each part has its own directions. The entire test takes about two hours to complete. Listed below are some general guidelines for taking the TOEIC test. Tips for dealing with specific sections of the test are presented later. To improve your chances for success on the TOEIC test: 1. Increase your overall exposure to English. Surround yourself with the language. Read a wide variety of business-related material. Magazines, brochures, advertisements, letters, and other business correspondence are good sources of TOEIC-related material. Reading will help you learn English sentence structure and gain an understanding of vocabulary and common phrases f개m context. Listen to native speakers giving announcements, making speeches, and have conversations on the radio, on tapes, or in person. 2. Become familiar with the TOEIC test format. Try to understand not only the question types but also kinds of information most likely to be asked for. Know the time limits for each section of the test so you can pace yourself. 3. Learn and practice test-taking strategies. Read or listen to each question carefully. Answer the question in your mind, then look for your answer among the answer choices. If you don't know what the answer is, eliminate the unlikely choices, then choose from the remaining answers. Use your intuition when you have to guess. Most importantly, make a decision and move on to the next question. You can't afford to waste valuable time mulling over difficult questions. Mark an answer to every question, and save some time at the end of the test to double-check your answers. 4. Develop confidence by doing practice tests. Simulation of actual test conditions can help you overcome test anxiety and prepare you for the actual situation.
