Introduction I would like to share with you my life story up until the moment when I began to pray with the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to offer retreats. After I joined the Society of the Sacred Heart, I was in charge of provincial finances for a long time. I managed the finances for the high school, the University of the Sacred Heart and the province itself, which included buying land and rebuilding houses. I was not satisfied with the job because I felt that it was no job for a nun. I tried to find meaning in the work by thinking that I indirectly contributed to the educational ministry of the Society. The Society also cared for the spiritual well-being and maturity of its members. We had a directed Ignatian retreat once a year and sometimes we could request a thirty-day retreat, which I did. When I finished the long retreat, ten years after making perpetual vows, I found meaning in financial work. I realized that my occupation mattered little compared to my relationship with God. After discerning this truth, I felt deep inner peace and passion for my work. One day, a religious man visited me and asked me to be his spiritual director. I was surprised. I did not know where he got the information about me and why he was asking me to be his spiritual director. Because I had just finished my thirty-day retreat at the time, I gave him my director,s name and told him to go to see him for direction. He met my director but came back and asked me to be his director again. Thus, I became a spiritual director without knowing anything about it. After several months had passed, he asked me to direct his eight-day retreat. As I directed him, two other religious men asked me to be their director as well. Again, I referred them to my director, but they also came back and asked me to be their director. So, I became their director. The next year, a religious woman and a Protestant minister asked me to direct their retreats. The next year I was asked by four more religious women and two seminarians to direct their thirty-day retreats. At the time, I believed that no one could lead a retreat but Jesus Christ alone. So, I asked the Holy Spirit to lead the retreat and asked the retreatants to do simple prayers that help us to understand the heart of Jesus. The Holy Spirit was at work during those retreats. I did not prepare anything specific but all went very well. As I directed their retreats, I learned more about the spiritual world. My provincial saw my need to learn about spirituality and so sent me to the U.S. to study for a short time. I learned a lot from the courses I took, and I was able to make a sixty-day retreat, a retreat that reminded me strongly of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the center of our lives and prayers, Jesus is present. Those who prayed came to know Jesus, heart. They found him to be the miracle as they experienced his healing hands. After this experience, I decided to call this retreat the “Spiritual Journey through the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.” The prayer I introduced at the very beginning of the book was a favorite of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, founder of the Society of the Sacred Heart, and was recited by Religious of the Sacred Heart on the first Friday of every month. Now, I direct three-day, five-day, eight-day and forty-day retreats based upon this prayer. Time and again, I see how this Litany heals people as Jesus healed people two thousand years ago. I understand what he meant when he said, “Let all the thirsty come to me.” For example, a college student arrived to make a three-day retreat. He had spent four years studying for the college entrance exam, and because of this he was suffering from very low self-esteem. When he first came to the retreat, he was sarcastic and vulnerable; he remained quiet and tried not to be noticed by others. Yet, he came for another retreat. He tried harder to overcome his burdens, but he still had a hard time. The next time he came…
