책 소개
■ Preface Easy International Marketing and Business English is a textbook written for a classroom setting that encourages verbal interaction between students and the teacher. Many textbooks available have been written with the sole purpose of promoting an understanding of grammar with key vocabulary words while neglecting the importance of formal verbal communication. This book attempts to help teachers promote speaking within the classroom via pronunciation practice, spoken grammar drills, reading comprehension, verbal discussion of articles, and a variety of conversation topics. Many key words and issues throughout the book target the unique issues Koreans may struggle with when learning English or may be concerned with regarding marketing and business in the workplace, during travel, or simply in their own society. The book is divided into 18 lessons that are further divided into two parts. Each lesson can be tailored for a class that lasts 2 to 3 hours, or each part can be taught in a class lasting 1 to 1.5 hours. Students should be divided into pairs in order to help each other with the drills and conversations. The teacher should explain each section and allow time for the students to work through the various sections of the text using spoken English rather than writing answers down. Proverbs and Idioms: (10 to 20 minutes per lesson) Each lesson presents a prov- erb and idiom for the students to learn. These should be introduced to the students and the usage of them explained. Teachers can expand on these by challenging students to use them in their conversation groups. Pronunciation: (20 to 30 minutes per lesson) The teacher should go over the method to pronounce each sound presented in the lesson. This should then be followed by the teacher saying each word twice with students repeating each time. To break up the monotony, the teacher may stop on various words and ask the class to explain the meaning of the word in English, as many words are common or useful for retention. During the discussion time, the teacher can walk through the groups and check the pronunciation of the sound while the students are using them for drills or during conversation. This can help the students to perfect the sound during practical use rather than when specifically called upon. Drills: (40 to 60 minutes per lesson) Grammar practice is offered using examples to show the format of the drill and a key that will cue the appropriate answer. Students can quiz each other and check each other, while the teacher checks each group to confirm students are answering appropriately. To check for understanding, the teacher can ask the students to close the book and then confirm understanding by calling out the key word or phrase for the students to answer together or individually. Various articles are also presented to help with reading comprehension of a variety of business and marketing topics. Teachers are encouraged to allow students to utilize their dictionaries to promote understanding. Conversations: (50 to 70 minutes per lesson) Each lesson presents a business, marketing, and/or small talk related topic. There are twenty questions with sample answers to help students formulate their own answers. Students should be encour- aged to substitute words and phrases to tailor the samples to their own unique circumstances. Conversation tests are offered in the appendix. These tests provide key word hints for the questions that can be used each class to help students practice question grammar recall and their answers. The final conversation topic in the book provides open ended discussion questions that may be used for a final term paper or a class presentation.
