책 소개
his book is based on the content of an international symposiumentitled “What Do Museums Collect?” It was held by the MMCAfrom November 30 to December 1, 2018 and was organized by addingcertain texts to further the theme on top of the presenters’ writings. The symposium was the second research project of the MMCA’s “WhatMuseums Do” series, which was designed to reflect on the role ofcontemporary museums and discuss the newly required functions ofmuseums. While organizing the academic event, and later theaccompanying book titled What Do Museums Collect?, we at the MMCAfocused on two factors in the collection policy of museums that dealwith contemporary art. The first has to do with “the Others” that werecreated by people of different races and/or cultures, and have beensomewhat marginalized; the second includes various issues arising from“media and formal changes of contemporary art.”
