책 소개
‘A Canaan believer’ in Korean means ‘a non-practicing Christian’ who is not a member of a particular church and does not attend any religious gatherings or events. The reverse of Canaan, An-Na-Ca in Korean represents not attending a meeting or a place. The term ‘Canaan’ was coined to refer to Christians who became indifferent to Christianity. Currently, the number of Canaan believers has surprisingly increased, like a trend. In Western countries which have a Christian culture, the number has overwhelmingly increased to such a degree that it has already been studied for more than seventy years. In Korea, one-tenth of Christians officially are non-practicing Christians. There are some opinions that there are unofficially more than that. Therefore, in our country as well, the research concerning non-practicing Christians is becoming a more and more interesting subject in the field of pastoral work and from an academic point of view. This book will help you catch a glimpse, beyond the fragmentary ideas, of not only their religious lives in the churches organized by NPCs (Non-Practicing Christians), but also various sides of hidden non-practicing Christians who lead a religious life personally or as a small group. I believe firmly that while reading this book without prejudice, their stories will sometimes bring you a feeling of overwhelming empathy and also sometimes a serious reflection on your own Christian beliefs. From a theological perspective, the author closely illuminated a sincere worship that current diverse Christians should pursue, while portraying NPCs as a group that is ‘trying and agonizing for the growth of their faith.’ Moreover, as a researcher in the field of counseling, she will deliver the experiences which are deeply etched in their mind, in an original way from a psychological point of view.Reading this book reminds us of two words, ‘the community’ and ‘respect’, that we’ve forgotten. With an expectation that deeply exploring these precious values, which are the key words of this book, will give us enough understanding, I would like to recommend this to anyone who is serious about practicing the Christian faith.
