PROLOG “Plan for the Best, Prepare for the Worst, and Practice for the Customer” This Book, 『The Practice of Strategic Management-Methodology and Case Analysis』: 전략경영의실제. 방법론과사례연구, is written and edited for Korean who are living in the global business world. But more over the goal is set for the foreign students who are living in Korea, whether doing for their academic learning or for their professional experiences in business organizations. Management as a science, as we recognize it, began with the work of Frederick Winslow Taylor at the early of 20th century. And now one hundred years after the dawn of Scientific Management, the world of management and business grew extending its academic and practical arena as a dynamic and practical science. We easily find the impact of strategic management in business, in university, in public or non public or even NGO or NPO related institutes. Farmers of our age even may need the same knowledge as the university students on management to maneuver their successful work and life. Can we say that the core competence, knowledge management, competitive advantage, environment management, business ethics are the tools solely for the students or businessmen of our society? We can reply definitely ‘No’, and furthermore, management itself became more and more important for all the flows of activities, as can be considered a compulsory condition rather than an elective one. Where there are actors’ activities and/or systems’ mechanisms, there need strategic management activities embedded with the notion that “Plan for the Best, Prepare for the Worst, and Practice for the Customer”, to give a birth higher performance or high added value. The ‘Good Management’, without doubt, implies human and customer-oriented rather than simply profit and market- oriented approaches. The Practice of Strategic Management . Methodology and Case Analysis In the era of global internet and seemless travel and interactions, we can consult ourselves on what we want to know from the sites of internet. Our primary objective in preparing this ‘Practice of Strategic Management’ is to facilitate your endeavor to get the knowledge or information-seeking from internet with more the interest in using the internet sites as a new type of library. By seeing the growing number of foreign students in Korea, and also Korean students going abroad, I am convinced that the existing textbooks, whether in Korean or in English, are in lack of relevancy to cope with their requests and far behind of the changing environment in terms of robust management theories and practical business models. As a collection of academic and practical knowledge in strategic management including mainly my own research outputs and case analysis, this book comprehends several realms of strategic management issues; Overview on Management History, Research Methodology, Management Insights, and Case Analysis. Of course, these categories are tightly linked and related keeping their original roles sometimes for the students and otherwise for the businessmen in face of global issues. Korean, with their ‘Can-Do Spirit’ tend to rely on the human relationships to overcome their difficulties, as we call ‘Know-Whom’ oriented, other than the Japanese ‘Know-What’ or the ‘Know-Why’ of French or American ‘Know- How’ oriented logics of strategic actions. The invited insights on management and case analysis, because of the different logics of action and mentality, may be often accepted differently according to their nationality or originality. But whatever their differences figure out in action, we know well that the strong fusions of the ‘Know what-why-how-whom’ would be the sources for the sustainable high performance organization. Reminding that “The simple and strong way does not promise success, but the successful way is simple and strong” as Pablo Piccasso left us a word, “Tout le monde cherche, mais je trouve!”, do not plunged so much in the theories and models t…
