책 소개
Preface Fish is food: providing nutrition and livelihoodsfor millions of people across the world. Because the fish processing industry sits betweenthe fish producer and the consumer there is a need for influences from both sides to be considered. The aim of the book is to spark an interest not only in the technologies which canensure a sustainable world fishery but also the contexts in which they operate.Perhaps the greatest strength of fisheries economics is that it provides what has proved to be a very robust analysis of the causes of the overexploitation of fishery resources which lies at the root of the fishery management problem. Fishery Bio-economics is the study of how limited fisheries resources are allocated among unlimited wants. Most bio-economics analysis of the fishery involves the application of standard microeconomic tools commonly used to analyze the firm and industry. The first unique feature to account for is that harvest involves extraction of a renewable resource. The second unique feature is that most fisheries are under open access that is property rights are not private and exclusive. These two supply-side characteristics give rise to a number of interesting analytical and policy issues. In this book the first chapter explains basic fisheries economics while chapter two gives an overview on bio-economic models that are being used in the fisheries sector. Chapter three explains about fisheries management and chapter four shows economic backgrounds for the management tools that are being used in today’sfishery. Finally in Chapter five the uncertainties faced by fisheriesmanagers are being discussed is more detail. The guidelines were produced by Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Centre (OFCC) in collaboration with Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries (MOF) as part of South Korea ODA programs forSouth Pacific Countries.
