Book Description Through the story of Namche Barwa, a remarkable syntaxis at the eastern end of the Himalayas, this bilingual (Korean-English) science picture book explores the idea of a living Earth. From the collision of the Indian and Asian continents some 50 million years ago to the extraordinarily rapid uplift still unfolding at Namche Barwa today, the book traces how erosion and uplift continually drive each other in an ongoing feedback loop. Geological concepts—tectonic plates, suture zones, syntaxis, tectonic aneurysm—are explained in accessible language, with a glossary included for readers of all ages. Though we cannot feel it in our brief lifetimes, the Earth is moving even now; this book follows the story of that living mountain.
