책 소개
Where Time Flows and Memory Remains / 흐르는 시간, 머무는 기억의 자리에서 Sangnim Village and Pokpo-dong reveal themselves slowly. At first glance, they seem like any neighborhood in Seoul. Pause, and listen. Layers of time beneath your feet speak quietly. A centuries-old juniper tree. Palace attendants and eunuchs rested here at the end of their lives. A waterfall speaks only when rain falls. These are not past remnants. They are textures of living time. Walking Imalsan Cemetery, I realized forgetting and remembering are not opposites. They overlap, intertwine, and new forms of time emerge. Hyangnimpo Waterfall, on late-Joseon maps, revives its old stream after rain. What seemed lost flows back through fissures of time. Beneath Eunpyeong New Town roads lie old paths of Sangni-gol. Footsteps of people long gone remain. Time does not vanish. It accumulates beside us. Those who drew water from the well, palace attendants at Imalsan, those who listened to Hyangnimpo— their time touches ours beyond sight. These are not stories of the past. They are stories still unfolding. Our footsteps will one day remain in someone else’s time. A maple leaf floated on the Pokpo-dong water, then sank quietly. What flows does not disappear. What remains does not last forever. We live day by day in the space between.
