책 소개

Preface Stories Encountered Within Flowing Time Standing before Geunjeongjeon Hall, one feels old time quietly settling in the air. Since 1395, when Joseon's new capital was established here, countless years have passed, leaving traces upon this land. Walking the path from Gwanghwamun to Geunjeongmun, different scenes overlap: the splendor of Joseon, scars left by war, the pain of colonial rule, and the long efforts toward restoration. Time flows, yet settles beneath our feet, remaining as traces that cannot be erased. Fading Memories, Enduring Time Memories may grow faint, but they do not disappear completely. After the Imjin War, this place lay in ruins for more than two hundred seventy years. Rebuilt in 1865, it suffered again under Japanese colonial rule. Yet the palace's memory never vanished, only briefly obscured within the flow of history. What Has Vanished, Yet Remains Halls dismantled in 1915, spaces concealed after 1926. Though forms are gone, the memories engraved upon them endure. With the 1995 demolition of the Government-General building and the 2023 restoration of Gwanghwamun, lost time slowly returns to this site. The palace recovers its story at its own unhurried pace. The Shadow of Gyeonghoeru Standing by Gyeonghoeru Pond, the pavilion's reflection on the water moves between past and present. The view seen by kings and the scene today differ, yet within them flows a single stream of time. The wind beneath Sujeongjeon's eaves reminds us: time does not flow only forward. It overlaps, returns, and quietly accumulates. Stories Continuing Within Each Step The palace's restoration continues until 2045. What matters is not the finished form, but the process itself. What seems lost yet remains, and what seems present yet has vanished, breathe together here. Like old memories returning on the wind, the palace slowly finds its way back to its original form. The Questions Time Leaves Behind "Time flows, but memory remains." "Even as everything changes, there is an essence that does not." What I encountered here was not only the past, but a quiet question extended to us, living in the present. Even today, the wind blows. It resembles the wind from six hundred years ago, yet carries the texture of this very moment. Within it, I am merely one being pausing upon the river called time. Autumn 2026 Hongsahn
