Korean Photo Essay Collection V — Temples: The Shape of Stillness brings together Essays 13–15 of Season I (01–30) of The Korean Photo Essay Archive, continuing the long-term project that gathers 90 photo essays into 30 collected volumes. The series records Korea's principal historical and cultural spaces through paired photography and prose, systematically accumulating the changing face of place across the passage of time. This volume is organized around the theme of "emptiness and stillness," centered on Jingwansa Temple, Samhwasa Temple, and Samcheonsa Temple. The essay on Jingwansa Temple records a reflection beneath the surface of splendor, through temple grounds lit by lanterns beneath spring blossoms, while the essay on Samhwasa Temple reveals the fullness held within absence, through an empty room and courtyard left behind by a departed practitioner. The essay on Samcheonsa Temple considers the texture of time flowing along a mountain path beyond the sound of a wind chime. Each essay stands independently, centered on a single place, in the paired photograph-and-text form that defines the series. This structure secures both the completeness of each individual record and the extensibility of the series as a whole; this volume serves as one part of an archive that records the meaning held within spaces of emptiness.
