책 소개
Preface This book was conceived by the Asian Center for Women’s Studies (ACWS) as part of the textbook publication project launched at the opening of the Ewha Global Empowerment Program (EGEP) in 2012. To foster the next generation of women leaders who will lead changes for women’s rights and gender equality, EGEP is a two-week residential educational program that takes place twice a year at Ewha Womans University. Substantially, EGEP is created as a new platform for international women’s education based on Ewha Womans University’s 131 years of teaching women and 40 years of institutionalizing women’s studies. During the EGEP, participants and lecturers from all across the world gather together and share their experiences as feminists, activists, and scholars in order to produce new feminist knowledge and develop their potential to grow as agents of change in transnational feminist movements, which enable solidarity beyond national boundaries and areas of focus. As of 2017, a total of 215 women activists from 42 Asian and African countries completed the program with the participation of approximately 30 lecturers and gender experts. Based on the EGEP principles of feminist pedagogy, participatory learning, and reciprocal learning, this book is special in that it is a visible outcome of the knowledge production and practices made possible through the EGEP. The title of this book, Asian Feminisms and Transnational Activism, is an important epistemic value and core theme that flows throughout the EGEP. Eight of the twelve chapters in this book were selected from the lectures and open forum at the EGEP. The other four chapters were originally published in the Asian Journal of Women’s Studies owned by ACWS. Although this book started from the need for a textbook for the EGEP participants, we hope that this book will be valuable to everyone, including women activists, feminist scholars, gender experts, and women’s policy experts. I would like to thank all co-authors for meaningfully putting together papers based on their lecture, and enduring through the challenges of publishing this book. I also want to express gratitude to the researchers of ACWS for their cooperation, Ewha Womans University for their support, and last but not least, the Ewha Womans University Press.
