What is law? Many people tend to ask this question because the law is a complicated field to understand. There are lots of professional and complicated words and clauses that most people will not be able to understand -- even those that are educated and work in the professional fields tend to debate over what each law means. This is because the law isn’t like a math formula that is clear and gives one answer. In fact, the law is ambiguous and can be differently understood between people, and none of them is wrong. However, it is something that influences our daily life, even if we don’t notice it, as previously mentioned in the Preface. For example, when you drive a car, to go to work, you have to follow a speed limit and fasten a seatbelt because these are things that the law enforces you to do. If you don’t follow them, the police will give you a ticket with a few hundred dollars written on it that you are forced to pay until given due dates. Then, why was the law made so complicated in the first place? If it affects us every second, shouldn’t it be easier, so that we can all understand it and protect us from getting into unfair situations? There isn’t any correct answer given to this question, but we can try to educate ourselves to avoid any legal crisis and protect ourselves when our given rights are threatened. Due to our lack of interest and knowledge toward law, we are unable to take all the advantages that we can take from the law. Our culture of believing that law is just for lawyers or politicians is making us lose our power in society. Law is for everyone. Even if you didn’t graduate from law school.Knowledge can and will be our greatest power. That is why we are going to schools to learn and to build stronger selves. Now is the time to learn more about law and get used to the legal terms or cases that are being used around our daily life even when we do not notice them.I wish to start this book with the quote that Thomas Hobbes wrote in Leviathan to remind everyone that we should all start to see the importance of learning law: “Ignorance of the law is a no good excuse, where every man is bound to take notice of the laws to which he is subject.”
