PREFACE The grand cosmological cycle of the cosmic year has finally reached the threshold of the cosmic autumn, and humanity is now entering into a critical epoch of renewal: gaebyeok. Gaebyeok will sweep away the stale customs and ancient bitterness of the past, allowing humans to finally turn our backs upon history’s long dark night of war and strife and raise our faces to the shining promise of the new world that shall now dawn: the Paradise of Immortality. This truth that I now present to you is the vision entrusted to us all by Gahng Jeung-san (1871?1909), born one hundred and forty-six years ago in the Eastern country of Korea, an incarnation of Sangjenim, the “Emperor Above” or “Supreme God.” Jeung-san Sangjenim bestowed upon humanity a truth not revealed in the teachings of any sage in either the East and West: this truth is the Supreme Dao of Mugeuk, the way of humanity’s completion. Sangjenim was also the first in history to undertake the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth, beginning the process of fundamentally resolving all the causes of human suffering and oppression. Since Sangjenim’s arrival in this world, over ten million people have been changed by His boundless dao and have dedicated themselves as practitioners. In recent times, His truth has spread throughout Korean society and is now spreading across the globe in the form of the Dojeon. Jeung San Do (“Dao of Jeung-san”) is the name both of Sangjenim’s supreme dao and of the organization that practices and spreads this dao. We, Jeung San Do’s faithful body of practitioners, have opened dojangs (“dao temples”) in countries across the world to further our mandate to spread the teachings and hence help the people of the world understand and prepare for the impending future?a future of trial, renewal, and paradise. The teachings of Sangjenim and of His dao successor, Taemonim, have been preserved by Jeung San Do within our holy scriptures, the Dojeon, so that all can feel the breath of Their spirits within its pages. I had the honor of overseeing the compilation of the original Korean-language edition of the Dojeon, which was launched in 1992 at a ritual commemorating Sangjenim’s incarnation?a chiseong attended by thousands of followers. Throughout this long labor, I promised myself that the Dojeon would be translated into many languages and that millions of copies would be distributed to share the supreme dao of Sangjenim and Taemonim with all the people of the world. During the ensuing years, I have worked to spread Sangjenim’s and Taemonim’s teachings via other texts, the founding of dojangs, and speaking tours. Now, the Dojeon has been translated into English, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, and Russian, and is being shared with people across the globe. I extend my deepest gratitude to the many individuals who labored countless hours writing, cross-referencing, discussing, and editing the Dojeon translations. Through their dedication and indefatigable effort, the members of the Jeung San Do Dojeon translation teams have brought down language barriers, allowing vast numbers of people the opportunity to experience and understand Sangjenim’s and Taemonim’s boundless teachings. I am delighted that Jeung San Do’s truth, embodied in the Dojeon, is now within reach of our brothers and sisters around the world. Experiencing the Dojeon can be a profound spiritual odyssey through the gate of the future because its pages contain Jeung-san Sangjenim’s message of a new heaven, a new earth, and a new humanity. Those who resolutely study the Dojeon and embrace its message with a sincere mind will awaken to their true nature as the culmination of the universe?will become reborn as children of a new life.
