책 소개
This research report explores the role of Non-socialist Group(“Grouppa” or “Gruppa"), one of the prison guards of North Korea as a Panoptic Society, which has previously been unexplored. The primary aim of this research is to reveal the identity of the Grouppa, the surveillance agent in North Korea as a closed society; while also mapping the mechanisms of structural human rights violations, and to further understand the distinguishing, unique features of North Korea to call for a response to North Korea’s various mechanisms which perpetrate human rights violations. There is no doubt that gross human rights violations through structural violence have been perpetrating North Korean society. In engagement with international organizations, the regime has shown sensitive responses to its human rights issues. Ever since the Commision of Inquiry on Human Rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (COI) published its first report on the subject, plenty of ongoing activities have been conducted for the sake of improving the current situation. Nevertheless, there has not been any significant improvement of the human rights condition in the country. In this context, this research on the Non-socialist Group has been created to remind the international community of the uniqueness of the North Korean state, as well as emphasize the importance of human rights violation monitoring in the country.
