ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: In the process of putting this book together, I have learned that many individuals -both past and present, and their invaluable input and help, guidance and patience- have contributed to see this project through to fruition. I want to first express my unfettered gratitude to Laurencina Farrant-Lee, who first inspired and encouraged me to get involved in the art field during my early years in Seoul and who has steadfastly remained my unconditional confidant all these years. The role she has played in my life has not only defined much of it, but filled it with immeasurable joy. My life in Seoul would have never been as rich or meaningful as it has proven to be without the friendship and generosity extended to me by many wonderful people in Korea that I deeply love, respect and cherish. I especially want to express my sincerest thanks to those who have in various ways contributed to this project either knowingly or unknowingly: Suk Hyun Yoo, my mentor in life, who has always guided and encouraged me forward; Soon Hee Choi, who has never failed to inspire me and share the beauty of Korean culture past and present; and Ki Youl Nam, my business partner at Gallery Gabo Fine Art & Jewelry, who has unwaveringly been a source of great support and encouragement and whose creative talent I both envy and respect. But this whole project would simply never have come to light without the vision and passion of Ho Chul Huh(Charlie), who first acquired the collection from an estate sale and then Hyang Hwa Lim-Kim, who was instrumental in keeping this collection intact, bringing it to Korea and entrusting me to carry it forward. And it most certainly could not have moved forward so easily without the generosity and patience of Sang Choul Kim, the chairman of D&P Corporation in Korea, who early on enthusiastically supported this project. I have relied heavily on the experience and expertise of a few people for this book that I want to both acknowledge and thank: independent curator, Jeong Eun Ho(Lydia), who has been with me every step of the way for both the book and exhibition as well as the promotion of this project; Print Art Rearch Center(PARC) and designer Young Sook Kim for their professional guidance and efforts in printing and publishing this book; my close friend from the theater world Myung Joo Chung, who helped me with the initial search for information on the artist and pain stakingly worked on the translation and edting of the texts from English to Korean despite the endless demands on her own schedule and projects; Taek Soo Jang, who also deftly applied his professional tranlation and editing skills to the texts; artist Do Yoon Kim(Adam), who has worked on photographing and preserving Adrienne’s collection of her father’s art in New York as well as Hyang Hwa Lim- Kim’s collection here in Seoul; and Alex Kim, who enthusiastically agreed to hold the first exhibition of Jacques Simons’ artwork in Korea at Brega Artist Space in the up and coming area of Song Su Dong in Seoul. I am especially honored and appreciative to Dr. Pamela R. Howell, who graciously agreed to proofread and edit the English texts for this book. She was my first professor and introduced me to the beauty of literature and joy of writing. She is also my oldest and dearest friend and confidant and I remain steadfastly grateful for her guidance, love and support all these years.
