책 소개

The 63rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly designated June 8th as World Oceans Day. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, pointed out in this address that human activities are taking a heavy toll on the ocean world. From the perspective of development in the world history, human beings have communicated and interacted with each other through ocean and river navigation. From the rivers and oceans in ancient Egypt and the Greeks in the Mediterranean, to the continents and islands of the East and the establishment of the Maritime Silk Road, oceans have constituted a path towards the modern world connecting it as a whole. The development of navigation technologies has connected great civilizations. Ships at sea have linked seven continents and four oceans, expanded the boundaries for human beings to explore the world, boosting the development of civilizations and cultural integration. These historical facts improved human adaptation and cognition towards a unified world, conforming the spiritual pursuit of mankind. As a result, it is our duty to take care about marine ecological environments, the correlation between oceans as well as the dynamics of todays climate, to develop the a marine economy that pays attention to the influences that the ocean creates on the future of mankind, and with this carefully manage marine resources. The theme of the fourth edition of IOAF2021, named "Life, Ocean, Future," aims to draw attention to the past through the unique expression of the artists, to remind people that for millions of years the sea has nourished of humankind. It calls on people to regard those cultures formed around river basins and create together an ecological environment towards to the future survival and development of mankind, with a particular emphasis in 2021. Particularly in this special period of 2021, all mankind are striving to address those issues on our common living environment in the future.
