책 소개
This book is the first collaboration between Dr. Kim Chongmin, a research professor at Seoul National University, and Lee Gina, a first-generation environmental activist and science humanist. Having previously co-translated the environmental history classic A Green History of the World by Clive Ponting, the two authors have now combined their respective expertise in history and environmental science. They analyze the flow of human history through the lens of "climate change," viewing it as a macro-level environmental shift that encompasses Earth and its surroundings. The authors do not limit history to written records, which are often distorted by human greed or complex interests. Instead, they use advanced scientific data—such as genetic analysis, archaeoastronomy, paleoclimatology, and geology—as tools to uncover the "true history" etched behind human documentation. The book moves away from traditional perspectives found in textbooks to offer a fresh, scientific framework. It explores why the powerful kingdoms of Goguryeo and Baekje were ultimately unified by Silla, why Balhae collapsed so suddenly despite its strength, and what made the revolution of the Goryeo Dynasty possible. By viewing human society through the paradigm of climate change and its impacts, the authors provide an analysis that is not only innovative and refreshing but also meticulous and logical.
